Hafodyrynys welcomed St Julians to The Welfare Ground for their Swalec Bowl clash on a great day for rugby,The Hafod were looking to bounce back after last weeks heavy defeat to Machen. The Rams welcomed new scrum half Rhys Davies. The Hafod got off to a poor start with the kick off not being gathered,which led to a period of St Julians pressure but good Hafod defence kept their line intact before wing Steve Davies intercepted the ball in his own 22 and after making good ground fed full Emyr Ackerman who eluded the defence to score. St Julians continued to dominate and The Rams only crossed into St Julians territory for 2nd time in the first 20 mins when evergreen wing forward Chris Wall rolled back the years with a storming run which included a superb dummy. The Hafod came close to scoring when penalty was awarded and the kick for goal was turned down in favour of a kick into touch and from the resultant line out, a move straight off the training paddock with captain Dai Rossiter receiving the ball back from impressive 2nd row Jordan Davies and he fed Steve Davies who held up just short. Wing Steve Davies was not to be denied and from a solid Hafod scrum,scrum half Rhys Davies fed the wing who touched down in the corner.score 12-0 St Julians hit back with a try of their own to leave the half time score 12-5 The 2nd half saw The Hafod under pressure with them reduced to 13 men at one point following 2 yellow cards but superb defence with No 8 Luke Pidgeon and 2nd row Lee Masterson to the fore kept The Rams line intact. The Hafod increased their lead with the try of the game when Emyr Ackerman ran a kick back and after a mazy run he fed wing Irwin Tejam who showed great pace to score. The biggest cheer of the day was reserved when club stalwart Mark Hodges scored the final try of the game following a great run from Steve Davies Final Score 24-5
