Beaufort RFC v Hafodyrynys RFC

Hafodyrynys R.F.C. first game of 2015 was a trip up the valley to face Beaufort at one of the highest grounds in Wales.  Hafodyrynys were without their inspirational captain Daniel Crandon due to injury.  The game kicked off in suprisingly good conditions and The Hafod were soon on the front foot with The Hafod scrum dominant from the off.

However Beaufort were first to score when The Rams lost possession and from a lineout close to The Hafod line a well worked catch and drive saw Beaufort score and with the conversion lead 7-0.  The Hafod soon hit back after a quickly taken tap penalty saw impressive no8 Kyle Griffiths crash over and the conversion from full back Chris Stevens brought the scores level.  The Hafod then increased their lead with the try of the game,a lovely back move involving centre Jeremy Parsons whose half break and slip pass put full back Chris Steven into space and the full back showed excellent pace to outstrip the covering defence to score in the corner

Chris Stevens then converted his own try.score 7-14.  The Hafods scrum dominance with the front row of Scott Gameson,Matthew Phelps and David Rossiter to the fore paid dividends when a good scrum drive enabled no 8 Kyle Griffiths to score his 2nd try,the try again converted by Chris Stevens
Half time score 7-21
The second half was a much tighter affair with the Beaufort defence denying The Hafods attacks.  The Rams came close to scoring when 2nd row Nathan Morgan broke clear and fed fellow 2nd row Ashley Hulme who was tackled just short.  The search for the bonus point was not helped by a Hafod forward being yellow carded but The Rams kept their line intact despite being down to 14 men. With scrum half Josh Morgan replacing the evergreen Mark Williams and Lee Masterton replacing the injured livewire flanker Daffydd Jones,
The Hafod kept the pressure on in search of the bonus point and were rewarded when replacement full back Rob Smith took a quick tap penalty and fed wing Emyr Ackerman who crossed in the corner.  Final score 7-26
